Artist Statement

Since day 1 I can tell you that Matthew Torkilsen has been a ham. No really! Ask my mom! What I love most about my art is the ability to make someone laugh. As an artist the most important thing to me is putting a smile on the faces of those who need it most. You will see this through my bodies of work as well as my general disposition.

When people ask me what I want to do within the world of acting I usually tell them I want to pay my bills. After a hearty laugh and an exchange of “Don’t we alls” I then divulge and say I don’t care what I’m doing, as long as I get to perform I will be happy. That has always been my vision and my dream for my career, and if you’re a working professional reading this, how cool would it be for YOU to be in on the ground floor of the Matthew Torkilsen project.

I am a recent graduate from Marquette Univeristy with a major in Theatre Arts and a double minor in Digital Media and Advertising. With these skills I have become very versatile, so if anyone is looking to hire me I have plenty of different skills I can bring to the table!

I love my craft and the passion for it. I am extremely lucky that I get to call this my job. I am very grateful to be able to do what I love for a living. I will always strive to reach for the stars, and fortunately that is something I am very good at.
